Before getting married or formalizing a civil union in Jasper County, couples must obtain a marriage
license or civil union license.

How to Apply for a Marriage License

  • Both parties must be 18 years or older. If either party is 16 or 17 years old, they can marry but both birth parents must sign a parental consent form at the County Clerk’s office when applying for the license.
  • The application process must be completed in-person with both parties present at the Clerk’s Office. Valid ID with proof of age is required by both parties.
  • Once the license is issued, the marriage must take place within 60 days in Jasper County. Couples must obtain a marriage license at least 24 hours before the wedding is to take place. They cannot obtain the marriage license and marry on the same day.
  • A marriage license cost $60.

The completed license must be returned in 10 days of the marriage, anyone can return the license to the clerk’s office.

The following information is required for both parties:

  1. Name, Address, place of birth, date of birth
  2. Mother + Father, Name, Address, place of birth
  3. Education, prior marriage information
